The Paddle UK Paddlesport Safety and Rescue course is intended for all paddlers, coaches and volunteers, irrespective of craft or discipline choice. It provides training on key skills needed to operate safely and deal with common emergencies in a sheltered water environment. These skills then form the foundations for safety and rescue throughout the Paddle UK awards.
This course is completely based around training and raising awareness, with no assessment. Structured to support you, our experienced tutors will ensure you have plenty of time practicing, as well as understanding how you can develop skills and experience after the course.
The course takes around 6 hours and will cover 7 modules:
Safety frameworks, Clothing and equipment, Providing assistance, Self-rescues, Deep water rescues, Rescue scenarios, Reflection and skills checklist
There will be opportunities to develop and progress your rescue skills and meet like-minded people during the course. Many of our course candidates develop long lasting friendships, connections and contacts.
Your course will support you to consider safe practices, provide practical solutions to common issues and appropriate responses to incidents, providing peace of mind when venturing out onto the rivers.

This 2 day course is aimed at those paddling as peers and covers a range of topics that include emergency planning & procedures, chase boating, equipment rescues and scenarios and much more.This course is designed to support paddlers to be independent participants on grade 2(3) white water rivers. Paddlers can access the course with their preferred craft which can include kayaks, rafts, canoes and stand up paddleboards.
Paddle UK Paddlesport Leader Training courses are available to support you in your development of the required skills. This course typically covers leadership skills, and the associated personal skills, safety and rescue skills. We will help you identify an appropriate action plan to support your progress towards a successful assessment. Training length is 2-5 days and personalised for you.

This combined training and assessment course will enable you to run games and activities to support learning and inspire adventure and exploration for new paddlers in stable craft. On this practical course, you will learn skills such as:

Kitting up a group and getting afloat

Activities and games to support learning

How to use mini journeys to promote exploration of the environment

Keeping your group safe
You need to be able to paddle your Canoe, Kayak or Stand Up Paddleboard independently on flat water. Paddlesport Safety and Rescue or FSRT is a pre requisite for this award. If you havent completed your PSRC we can organise this before the course start date.
The course program includes 10 days of input for the below awards. This is run over an 8 week period to give you time to develop and practice in between. 8 days are in and around Sussex/Kent, 2 Days are on an away trip to the Lake District.
At the end of the course, you will receive a personalised development plan with actionable steps to continue with your development.

Performance awards are a great way to show experience. They can prove competence for peer paddling in canoe clubs, or be used alongside other experience to prove competence in a work setting.
